“I aspire to be a giver. A giver of love, a giver of good vibes and a giver of strength”
So, as mentioned in my first post, I am the co-founder of a local non-profit foundation called Be The Change Foundation established in 2012 with my late aunt Erika Cannegieter-Smith.
Basically, what we do is “crowd fund” (gather small amounts of donations from lots of people) each month for a different community initiative on SXM to shed light on the (often under-appreciated) awesomeness that specific organization does for our society.
Today, the foundation is proud to announce that the Board has selected the 12 featured organizations for 2015! Each of the foundations had to apply before December 27th, 2014 in order to have their application considered.
January – Kids Unite Foundation
February – Beyond Writing Foundation
March – Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (E.P.I.C)
April – No Kidding With Our Kids
May – St. Maarten Archaeological Center (SIMARC)
June – St. Maarten AIDS Foundation
July – Discovery Farm & Garden
August – Community Outreach, Mentorship & Empowerment (C.O.M.E.) Center
September – Positive Foundation
October – Animal Defenders
November – Philipsburg Jubilee Library
December – I Too Can Learn Foundation
Each of the chosen organization have a specific project that they are raising funds for and during the month of their feature we try and promote their cause as much as possible to the public.
On behalf of the Board and the NGOs we have featured thus far, a Huuuggeee thank you goes out to our selfless monthly and annual donors (and of course to those who just give what they can when they can) for making this a possibility!
You can learn about how to contribute in making a difference on St. Maarten by helping these organizations by visiting our website www.bethechangesxm.com or staying up to date with us on Facebook (/bethechangsxm). We’re currently working on streamlining our website to make giving back even easier, especially for those living abroad, so stay tuned everyone 🙂
