“There is a deep beauty here.”
I grew up on Sint Maarten (dutch side) and attended school on Saint Martin (french side). I love my island life because even though it can be chaotic, there is a deep beauty here, a sort of subtle magic that grabs you and reveals itself in the little things: a ray of sun shining on a traditional west indian cottage, a few cows under a tamarind tree, or even a pelican flying at eye level when you are taking a swim .. these are just some of the things that make me love my island life.
It’s been about 2 years since I founded Eco Island Babies, which promotes eco friendly living and raising kids in an eco friendly manner on the island. I blog about subjects ranging from which eco friendly products you can find in which stores at any given time to how to cloth diaper your kids, to how easy it is to make your own baby food and reuse recycle common packaging to name just a few topics.
My island new year’s resolution is to try any new restaurants/bars that have recently opened, as a local I guess I have my faves and I stick to them, it’s not until someone visiting or a newly established person asks me about a few new places that I realize I have no idea about them and feel like an old git set in her ways lol.
